DO PICHO in 2025
We welcomed our first resident artist, Jean Brundrit from Cape Town, South Africa, in August of last year, and held our first event at the artist residence shortly thereafter, on September 11th. So much has happened since! Most importantly, Jean and the resident artists that followed, Stefanie Zoche, Julia Venske and Luis Antonio Sanchez Leon, all fell in love with Galicia and its people. They worked closely with people in the community to create art that expresses how deeply people here feel about the need to protect the environment, and how much they crave and fight for a better and more sustainable future.
Now, after a short break we are ready to welcome the first of many 2025 resident artists, Victor Tenorio Fuertes from Mexico. He will be followed in May by Lisa Tognon and Claire Varin from Quebec, Canada; Ari Bayuaji from Indonesia in June & July; Alex Chowaniec in August; and more artists and activists in September and October, to be announced soon. Stefanie Zoche will be back in June, with Celulosa Invasiva and other projects, and Jean Brundrit, with whom our journey began, will also be back in September, with an exhibition of her new and some old work at Castelo de Pambre. Every month, we will be opening our doors for artist talks, to create art with members of the community, for collaborative projects, and, yes, for music and dance.
In a world that is getting scarier by the day, Do Picho will continue to speak out loud and clear against corporate greed and corruption; about the need to protect and promote everyone’s human rights and safeguard the environment; and about why it is so important to support artists’ freedom and creativity. We hope to offer a safe space and a place in which everyone can thrive.
