Bea Saiáns

BACKGROUND

Bea Saiáns (Vigo, 1991) is a Galician screenwriter and director, and founder of CRU, the production company where she works with Iris Justo.

CRU is an audiovisual production company born with the aim and commitment to transform the persistent gender inequalities in the audiovisual sector. The cooperative’s pillars are essentially twofold: the creation of safe workspaces for people oppressed by the patriarchal system and the construction of narratives that do not contribute to discrimination or violence. As Bea says: “At CRU, we maintain the philosophy that team building is fundamental for accurate representation and identification in films. Therefore, we prioritize teams of women and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.” CRU received the award for Best Business Initiative at the Pontevedra Provincial Council’s Xuventude Awards (2022).

In 2025, Bea completed the short film “Plumass,” part of a research project on movement in relation to cinema, commissioned by the Órbita de Braga25 program. The short film is currently in distribution and premiered at the Intersección Festival in A Coruña.

Also in 2025, she wrote and directed the television series “Régime,” which premiered on Televisión de Galicia and deals with eating disorders and fatphobia. She also directed “Delirio Sketches,” a Galician-Portuguese co-production that won the Best Digital Content Project Award at the 2024 Carballo Interplay Festival, received a special mention at the Curtocuircuito Festival (2025), and was selected for the 2024 AGAG-Fundación SGAE tutorials for screenwriters, among other selections, including the Agrocuir da Ulloa Festival (2025). The web series will be available in 2026 on the Filmin platform.

BEA’S DO PICHO PROJECT

This is how Bea describes her plans for her January 2026 residency: “I’m writing future projects that I don’t know yet what form they will take. My work at Do Picho will consist of taking advantage of the social and environmental surroundings and focusing on what comes out of it. I think an environment like Palas de Rei is perfect to start imagining stories.”
