JOLIE HOLLAND with BEN BOYE

BACKGROUND
American multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, producer, and singer-songwriter and co-founder of the Canadian band The Be Good Tanyas, Jolie Holland has been on the road since the early 2000s. She has released eight of her own albums and contributed to countless others. Her work has been described as a syncretization of American roots, with rock and experimental elements. She’s been in the studio with Booker T, Lucinda Williams, TV On The Radio and Thor Harris; and shared stages with Big Thief, St. Vincent, Elbow, and Mavis Staples. Her collaborators have included Hal Willner, Kronos Quartet, and Boots Riley. Lou Reed once told her, “I could have listened to you all night.”
Ben Boye is a musical tinkerer who searches for new and interesting musical experiences both on and off the stage. Onstage, he is forever interested in improvisational encounters with other musicians, whether it be in explicitly experimental improvisational contexts or hidden away within the deep recesses of songs. Offstage, he designs and builds instruments and effects that prioritize randomness and interaction with the natural world. For example, his Almanac synthesizer module converts the positions of the sun, moon, and planets into control voltages that can be used to modulate parameters on synthesizers and other electronic instruments. He has played keyboards and a heavily modified custom autoharp with many people across the world in many different contexts.
